I just premiered a new prefab green home, The Sonoma House, at the Auburn Home Show in May, and had the opportunity to work with various contractors on green indoor home finishes. My favorite project was the flooring. We salvaged old barnwood that was going to the land fill. After installing and sanding, a mix of red wine and vinegar was mopped over the top of the bare floor and allowed to soak into the wood grain overnight. The wood color is amazing! The next day, the top was lightly sanded which allowed the dark grain, knot holes, worm holes, etc to show. It was definately one of the favorite aspects of the home by the viewing public!
