no rate hikes for 25 years, Almost free Solar
It's been about a year+ since I signed the FRA... and became an "Ecopreneur"... LOL
I admit I had zero confidence in the "scheme" they were proposing (shame on me for wasting their time), but saw no harm in playing along... hasn't cost me anything, and has given me some points to ponder...
I admit that in _theory_ what they've proposed makes sense, but there is simply no way for them to actually deliver on the grand promise without hundreds of millions of capital... maybe billions $$$...
I sincerely hope they're not planning to stick it to the US taxpayers in some sleazy backroom deal! You know convince some really huge FDIC insured fund to invest the $$$ and then "fail under the economic burdens"...

So far these people have not produced the system and panels they said they would. They also have not installed 1 system that I know of.
Free isn't always free. I installed a system myself back in 2001, I havce added to it every few years and also done many low cost passive solar type projects. I jhave 2.4 kw now.
So far I make more than I use over 1/2 the year and only use a liite the other months. My system doesn't use any water or make any pollution. It also cost half what my neighbors pool cost !

I also agree with MDarling...
I signed up back at the end of May. I got all my agreement papers sent to me .. signed everything..and waited...and waited. The paperwork had my reps. email so I sent him a letter asking if I was to hear something back. No reply. Tried to log in to my account and it didnt recognize me.
it is now Oct and they were to begin installing in 08. I feel this company is a bust and its to bad that Ed has endorsed it so much...doesnt do much for credibility

this an industry link I found about it.
I don't think they have a chance but want to support any clean idea that helps people learn and check the facts.

Thanks Solar Stacks,
I have been on their site many times, and sent it to everyone I know who owns their own home. I was actually inquiring about MDarling's Post that said :
"The best write up from an industry insider I have found is here"
I was just wondering where the "here" part was! Does that mean on this forum, or was there a link that did not go through? Just wondering!
Thanks!

this service is linked right here on fixing the planet Ed Begley Jr who is associated with this site also says to check it out.
They may never install a system but at least you can check and show interest so maybe google or some other company does this concept. If it does go and you signed up you have rates from the day you sign up that never go up. What utility would promise that ?
Check it out. Maybe you'll just buy a system up front like I did and not wait.

CitizenRe has yet to install a single customer. And has yet to prove they can.
So far- they have generated a mountain of press and hype by making promises and creating a network of unpaid MLM sales/marketing reps.
The business model is interesting- but appears to many, including me, to be non-viable.
The best write up from an industry insider I have found is here
Please don't bury the author with a ton of questions- until you've researched it enough to know the answer isn't readily out there.

MD, I agree with your issues with this since they haven't done a single home yet. My point is sign up for the guarenteed rate and to voice a vote for solar. You can cancel if they don't produce.
I think if people learn about solar and how gret it is they may end up buying their own system lioke I did. It's a very good thing just as it is with no free rides, just a sound investment.

Have you signed up for this solar service ? It cost nothing to sign up and your rates will be set from the day you sign up. If you don't like their design you can always cancel.
You can also call a renewable energy company in your area and see about putting in a system you pay for. There are incetives from the Federal gov, state and many utilities. Now is the best time to act.
Here in Arizona the biggest utility ,APS has requested a 20.4% rate increase. All the other companies have requested 10% or more each year. I'm sure glad I put in a grid tied solar system myself back in 2001. It's already paid for itself and just keeps on making clean , free electricity. I don't use any other fuels. The panels all are warrentied for 25 years.

some people wonder about this deal. They would like to own their own system but can't afford it. This is a prefect deal for a retired couple or person to help control cost and help the planet.
There are a few other companies that will finance your system and give deals if you get a group of peole to all buy systems in the same area.
Check out solarcity.com and krystalplanet.com They botrh off solar deals all across the country.
Let us know if you have used one of them.
I put my system in myself so I haven't done work with these companies directly or know of people who have used them. Share your experience.

The link on this site to rethink solar is very interesting. This company citizen will place a solar system on your home and you just pay them for power instead of your power company for that portion of power. They give you up to a 25 year guarentee on the power price the same as you pay today.
That's a pretty nice deal. You should check it out. http://renu.citizenre.com/
You can be helping to save the world and get stable rates. I can guarentee you the power company will raise the rates every chance they can as they have in the past.
