    EV Conversion Workshop

My non-profit, Bucks County Renewables, is sponsoring a two-week, hands-on conversion workshop in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania from July 30 - August 10. Participants will convert a 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon to a fully-electric vehicle. The class, the first of its kind on the East Coast, will be taught by Mike Parker, who has offered three similar workshops in California in the last two years. You can see a video about the class on Google video: search for "commuter car conversion event".

There are still a few spaces remaining in the East Coast EV Conversion Workshop, which will run from July 30 - August 10 at the North Montco Technical Career Center in Lansdale, PA. Students will gain direct experience with all aspects of electric vehicle conversion, and have the option to become certified to teach the course in their own localities in turn.

I invite readers of this forum to join us and to spread the word to friends about this valuable opportunity. Visit www.buckscountyrenewables.com for more information or to to download a registration form.

    Re: EV Conversion Workshop

I'm working on converting a used Golf Cart (48 volt) to a NEV and it should go about 30mph and be able to make my 5 mile r/t to work about 3 times before recharge (w/conventional lead/acid batts). Arizona is very open to citizens using NEV's. I'm looking at after market equipment to increase the speed to approx 40mph and the distance through better batts. Here's the bottom line...this cart will cost approx $4K. To me many folks can't but that new hi-tech $100K EV, so why not start small and wait for the prices to come down...i.e. drive a 66' VW until the GM EV1 is brought back..ops the new model will probably be a generation 3 EV1.
