A great book that will make you think !

Author:

Peter Tertzakian

Rating:

9

Synopsis:

This book covers the amazing amount of energy we use in the USA. We consume oil like it was free. At 1,000 barrels a second this is a massive problem.

He really has good facts and information. It's a must read for everyone.

Table of contents:

This is 7 chapters and 254 pages.

He starts with whale oil and how we almost killed every whale in the world. It goes onto all the oil we use now.

The final chapter tells about the future and he says there are no magic bullets. This is the only place I disagree with him. We have great renewable energy we just have to use it.

Review:

The best book I have read on the oil addiction and why we have it.

Re: 1,000 barrels a second

Nice tag line, I just wonder how many folks actually understand its meaning?

When I was about 7 or 8 my neighbor* told my that most adults really didn't understand the "concept" of "A Thousand". I was shocked and confused by his statement, because at the time I was trying desperately to accumulate $10 in pennies. All I knew was it was difficult being the only kid that didn't buy bubblegum every day, but I was motivated by the numbers.

So how do I get the message out that the technology to generate electricity worth 5.7 barrels a second (500,000 bbl/day) is within reach. Yes, it'll take fully 5 years to reach that level of productivity. But what happens if the opportunity is not taken advantage of???
